Every able-bodied young man of Polish decent or anyone who is sympathetic to the cause of Polish freedom is called to join the Polish Legion in France. Many have guarenteed that Poland will have its day in the Parade of Nations. But no country has ever given Poland its sovereignty, except France. France created the Duchy of Warsaw in the Napoleonic era, and wishes to reaffirm Poland's posistion in the world today. We are recruiting extensively in all parts of the United States where any Poles live, from the cold streets of Chicago, to the industrial center of Buffalo every true Pole is welcome. Training has already started in France with some of the prisoners of war from the various Central Power Armies ethnic poles were fighting in. You don't want them to show you up do you? If you think you are a true Polish patriot, join the ranks at our recruiting office in Fort Niagara, NY, the U.S. Embassy in London or the U.S. Embassy in Paris.
Hey, for any developer that reads this; I would like to ask you why you think this is a "Dead horse." I would ask you to go back and review the forums. Any forum. Look at all the fans! Read the posts at [http://www.moddb.com/games/verdun] They are all positive! The fire may look feeble but we can still rekindle the flame. You know it doesn't have to end this way! Look at the community. Look at the small revolution you have sparked and still growing even now. We as a community have gathered ourselves together waiting for this game. I see this game all started with two computer science students. Look at how far this dream has come.......just to die now. Really? The community is still here. We are still here; we still have hope. We are still here and we have your back. Is there anyway we, as the community, can help make this dream a reality. Life and circumstances might seem hard and unforgiving, but make all this hard work pay off.
As much as I love to talk and poor at doing so; my speech might seem insignificant to you but I would like you to hear the voices of the community. Therefore I would like this to be the start of a petition. Anyone else reading this post please respond and add to it by posting your feelings. Show your appreciation for the development team by telling them why you are apart of this community and if you are willing to help any way possible. Is this community alive or dead?
Post your comments for petition here please.

Okay, I'm going to be 100% honest with everyone here.

This may be my last post, and I shall take the time to explain this as well as possible to each and every New comer to this forum.
This game began development in late 2006, which means its now been in work for about 6 years, what this means is this games graphics engine
and physics will not compete with modern games such as BF3 or CoD MW3. The games last official update on its status was on February 21'st 2011, thats just about 1 year ago on that update it states the beta is soon to be released. However it has not yet, and in my personal belief shall not be. There upon and based on the information gathered, I believe that this game is no longer alive.

As sad as this may be for those of us who have sat and waited the entire time, I will give you a few suggestions of games similar to this one.
BF 1918 -
The Trench -
WW1 Source -

I suggest the above games, The Trench is not yet released, and I know BF 1918 is still active.
THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL CANCELLATION OF THIS GAME, ONLY A EXPLANATION OF THE CURRENT SITUATION.

P.S - [www.moddb.com] - This is the MODDB link for this game, as you can see on the right about half way down, the last update on the MODDB link was 1 year ago.

Hey Leo i was just curious if i could ask with the Regimental system of adding "Regiment" me and some fellow 1st Btn, ELR Members are just wondering if u could have an option to Add Brigade or Regiment to the end of your Unit as with Australian Units they were in the following Organization.

Australian Infantry Divisions.

Division
Brigade
Battalions

we only Used Regiments for Cavalry Units and they were under Brigades

1st LH Brigade
2nd LH Regiment

So if we could have a "Brigade" Tag or a "Regiment" Tag that would be very very helpful as i may change 1st Btn, ELR to a Australian Battalion/Brigade

So then i could make "2nd Btn, 1st Australian Brigade" as "2nd Btn, 1st Australian Regiment" would be extremely historically incorrect

Thx Leo

Already know we cant yet, but will user end players make Factions? Id expect it would have a hefty set of guidelines and Developers checking in from time to time if it is allowed.
Basically I was thinking of Alliances. (Sort of like the league I ran that you saw on WW1 Source, except it would have more clan appeal)

In addition, do you need ANY web work? I Could look into creating a default-ish template for Factions to use that could be easily updated and administrated so it would keep everything clean cut and presentable.

I think that this might be more fun. A realtime battlefield. There is a map of the border between Gemany and France. There could be these battle blocks (areas) where when you go to the menu you can choose where you want to fight. These could be diffrent game servers. If a side takes over a block then that counts as a territory. And I dont mean every single piece of land just these certain modeled battlefields placed on a map. Once a side captures all the battlefield blocks they are declared the winner of the campaign. Once more players come into the game you can inlarge the map to hold all the players (I really dont know how many players each map should hold, 20? (with the AI bots with them that makes 60 unit battles). Anyway it would give a purpose for fighting a certain battle. What do you think?

I know that I posted this very same topic on the old forums but I think it is important enough to bring up again.
What if Verdun allowed there to be a "small" amount of AI bot support for each player in a regiment or faction?
Before this gets shot down like Manfred von Richtofen I want to bring up a few points.

1.If there were a twenty-man regiment and for each man there is three AI bots per soldier the chances of that regiment being destroyed in one over the top attack would be reduced because...
a.The bots would catch some bullets for you
2. Any amount of bot support would make the attacks more realistic which may draw more people to Verdun Online.
3. Its also good if you are planning on making a medium gore game it won't take up as much memory as high gore with corpses and debris.
4. only one out of three bot corpses will stay on the ground any more than a minute after they've fallen. which will still make the battlefield look like the Mash or the Mincer. All other bots can have their helmets and rifles remain which will contribute to the debris.
5.Actual Verdun Online players can control these bots to a certain extent. When the Verdun online player fixes their bayonet all of their designated bots (all three of them fix their bayonets) or when the player enters the enemy trench and immediately enters melee mode(however that will work) all of their remaining bots will enter into melee mode as well.
5. You could set a pattern for these bots to move in most likely open order to prevent mass bot casualties
6.once they're dead they're dead... until the next wave or the next battle even if you are killed and respawn
I understand that full AI is quite difficult, nigh impossible and they probably would only be able to move in straight lines no crisscrosses or jukes as one would say in american football. in truth they're purpose would probably be to serve as cannon fodder. as i mentioned before they'll catch some bullets for you.

Regiments and Clans? (29 replies)

Leo,

So what exactly is the description of Regiments. I see that they are basically a very interesting way for normal players to be a part of something greater and enjoy a tournament atmosphere with friends. Obviously at first glance, like myself, I initially interpreted that as being clans. But from looks of everything it looks like with the soon to be website integration that players can "join" a faction or regiment to fight with.

Now I know most clans here would prefer that and would accept as many people possible to have a large clan. However, some clans like mine require a bit of work to get into and have criteria to join. So obviously clans like these would not want random players freely joining us without going through recruit training like the rest of us.

This would limit us clans who require conditions to be met for membership because we could not openly create a "Regiment" on the website without random people joining without going through our prerequisites. And in turn it also makes it difficult for us to join an existing Regiment because they are clans who do not care to have any sort of recruit training.

Would it not be possible for a few admins and chosen moderators from your player base to be the ones to only create these regiments and limit how many are formed to ensure each regiment acquires a good chunk of players for future engagements? This way traditional clans could all just swear allegiance to one of the pre-made regiments/factions and any member they recruit down the road would just automatically be added to the regiment's manpower as well as any random player or other clans allied in the same regiment. Because if "Regiment Creation" alone are left to individual clans/people to be created, you will run the risk of seeing hundreds of these groups littered with 1-7 players who constantly change allegiances over and over again thus taking away the appeal for the Regiment idea and going back in time to just clan vs clan.

Just my 2 cents. Wrote this while being dead tired after a 12 hour work shift. Hope it makes sense what Im trying to suggest and why to everybody. Dont see me as tramping on yalls grand plans of making a great clan or anything. You can still do that. Im just worried that if these Regiments will basically just be clans with blanket recruiting and open sign ups itll just lead to a hundred other people wanting to make their own instead of joining one. And clan vs clan matches as you all know can get a bit testy. And a flame fest on the forums after every match is not a healthy thing.
